I think Ballard would be a nice value pick at the end of the third round. I have heavy doubts that he's still around at that pick, but I think No.64 would be too early to take Ballard. He has a lot of athletic ability and could end up having a better NFL career than Adrian Clayborn.

I think the thing that most thrills me about how Aaron's been playing is that he's been so secure with the ball. Aside from chucking the rock to Urlacher in the NFC Championship, he's really taken good care of the ball. In the playoffs more than any time, you have to avoid turnovers. Brett took a lot of risks when the chips were down. Aaron doesn't.

What I love about Rodgers is how he play the game in such a sound, smart way yet still possess the skill sets and play making ability to be great. With Favre we got a lot of the 'greatness' and leadership but not so much the smart quarterbacking. Rodgers has it all and is on pace for a HOF career.

Aaron Rodgers is really poised to do great things. With the team around him and his more Starr-like disposition, a great coach and general manager, the sky is the limit!

I couldn't agree more Fred. When we talk about "Packer People," Starr is the standard by which we should measure that. Perhaps in the next few seasons Aaron will establish himself alongside Starr, but he will never supplant the man.

Thanks for reading mister p. You're the second person who has suggested a Rodgers/Starr playoff comparison. I guess I'd better post one. :)

You're absolutely right that Starr had much better numbers when he hit the playoffs. It was a major factor in our 12 championships. The reason I left the playoffs out of this post was that we just didn't have much data for Aaron Rodgers in the playoffs. Now that he's gone deep into the 2011 playoffs, we're getting a better idea how he reacts in playoff situations.

I think I'll wait until the playoffs are over to write the post though. Hopefully, we'll have two more games of stats to add to the analysis (and a Lombardi trophy to boot).

Can we compare QB passer ratings of the great quarterbacks in the playoffs? I think Starr was 9-1 lifetime in the playoffs, losing only his first game vs. Philthadelphia. He played several playoff games in horrendous weather vs. dome stadiums and he also played in an era where defensive backs could maintain contact throughout the receivers routes.
Check the stats but I think Starr stands above all who have ever played the game.

Thanks for reading.

The yards the Packers generated on the ground didn't surprise me. What did surprise me was that McCarthy went with James Starks as the primary running back in this game. I was hoping to see more of Starks but really didn't expect McCarthy to suddenly give him the bulk of the load in a playoff game. Great job by James.
